Position Description
The Keller Lab at the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) has received NSF funding for a project focused on the hormesis effect of nanomaterials, in collaboration with Swiss colleagues at University of Geneva. Our Swiss colleagues will perform the exposure experiments, using various phytoplankton, and will provide samples for chemical analysis. Our task for this project involve performing metabolomics of control and treated phytoplankton, to determine the effects of the nanomaterials at the molecular level, at different exposure concentrations.
As part of this project, we are looking for a postdoctoral scholar to work on the metabolomics, using LC-MS/MS, under the supervision of Prof. Arturo Keller at UCSB. The position involves the development of new metabolic pathways to consider, as well as optimizing the existing methods. The successful candidate will also collaborate with PIs and postdocs in Univ. Geneva on the interpretation of the results, using advanced techniques that include machine learning. We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual, with excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to perform high-quality research and publication of the results in high impact journals.
The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the position.
